The hens perched themselves on the window-sills, the pigeons fluttered up to the rafters, the sheep and cows lay down behind the pigs and began to chew the cud.

세 마리의 개들이 처음으로 들어왔다. 블루벨, 제시, 핀쳐. 그 다음에는 돼지들이 도착했다. 돼지들은 연단 바로 앞 짚더미에 편하게 자리 잡았다.

35. 암탉들은 창틀(들) 위에 앉았다.

36. 비둘기들은 서까래(들)까지 펄럭이며 날라갔다. 

The pigeions fluttered up to the rafters. 

37. 양과 암소들은 돼지들 뒤에 누웠다. 

The sheep and cows lay down behind the pigs. 

38. 그리고 양과 암소들은 되새김질을 시작했다. 

And the sheep and cows began to chew the cud. 

★ perch : 새가 나뭇가지 등에 앉아 있다, 걸터앉다.

★ lie-lay-lain : lie 눕다의 현재형-과거-과거분사.

★ chew the cud : 되새김질하다, 곰곰히 생각하다.
